How to successfully redesign a website?

The Toclic Agency supported the Conférence des Grandes Écoles with website redesign, web development, digital strategy, and content marketing missions.

Goals

Modernize, enhance the user experience, and improve the site's readability

In autumn 2022, the Conférence des Grandes Écoles launched a call for proposals to redesign its website in connection with its internal information system. After reviewing the various proposals, the Toclic Agency was selected to carry out this mission.

Several objectives were identified for this project:

  • Create a more corporate website that reflects the image of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and better addresses multiple visitor targets.
  • Redesign the site structure for improved readability.
  • Optimize data retrieval from the information system to display real-time elements from the IS on the website.
  • Enhance the user experience on the site.

Strategy

Deploy the right digital techniques and closely follow the roadmap

From the start of the project, we developed a roadmap and a technical specification document outlining all the tasks to be completed. Weekly meetings were also established to discuss and validate the various stages of the project.

The developers quickly began building the module connected to the information system to retrieve data for display on the site using the API. Meanwhile, the project manager worked on designing the new site structure and creating wireframes. Once these elements were approved, the graphic designer created various graphic mockups.

As soon as the mockups were validated, the developers and integrators started the development tasks on a demo site. Throughout the project’s progress and during meetings, we presented real-time updates, integrated text and images, and conducted tests with the data retrieval module from the information system.

Before launching the site, we finalized its responsive version, implemented natural referencing (SEO) elements, conducted user acceptance testing, and made necessary corrections. Finally, the site was launched several weeks ahead of schedule.

The Conférence des Grandes Écoles includes 285 members, of which 235 are Grandes Écoles (engineering, management, architecture, political science, creation & design, journalism, military schools, veterinary and health schools, etc.), all recognized by the State and awarding Master's degree-level diplomas.

Results & Performances

A significant evolution in user behavior

The positive developments of the project were quickly highlighted by visitor behavior. The indicators below demonstrate that the objectives of the website redesign were successfully achieved. Visitors are engaging more with the content, staying longer on the site, and finding information more quickly.
